It didn&rsquo;t stay closed for long in the formal sense, but the chaos that followed (seizures, blockades, insurance spikes, sporadic attacks) kept oil flowing like treacle. Within four weeks, petrol prices in Auckland had risen about 40 per cent. Diesel had nearly doubled.
